07:16 pm: storytelling party
I am responsible for hosting a storytelling party! I am a little bit terrified! It's on the second floor, so I can't serve alcohol. The good side is that I don't have to find a co-host who is willing to take turns keeping an eye on the alcohol. The bad side is... how am I going to lure people in? Nice foods, I suppose. But how do you decide how much foods to have, when you don't have any idea how many people might come?

You figure out how many the space will somewhat uncomfortably hold, then get enough of whatever foods you like best (that will also keep for a while) to feed that many people. :)

Uh, buy a bunch of packaged things that you can return if not used? Or ask the organizers how many came last year.

Random fly-by (I was reading Friends of Friends), but having hosted some Baron Munchausen parties and not being much for drinking, I can assure you alcohol isn't essential.

Snacks, yes, preferably bite sized so people don't get too committed to an eating process, and lots of non-alcoholic beverages. Water at least, and preferably something tangy as well. That keeps people in the social and vocally lubricated groove that's usually facilitated by drinking establishments.

Signs help for promotion and decorations outside that let folks know something cool is going on inside. :)

Yes! I hadn't thought of that, even though I've seen the funny signs other people put up every year.
